THE IDEA: What is the problem being solved by your startup / business?:
We’re solving labour shortages for utility rental businesses like trailer, and equipment hire by creating fully contactless software that allows customers to pickup their items 24/7, no staff required.
We do this by integrating with offline capable digital locks, GPS trackers and online identity verification to ensure that customers can pickup their items any time, while maintaining security for their inventory.
THE FOUNDER’S STORY: When and how did you come up with the idea for the business?:
Lockii started as a the brainchild of my uncle many years ago who wanted to rent his Paddleboards 24/7 from a riverbank in Echuca Australia, we initially built our own rental system from scratch back then, but if we’re being honest it was absolutely terrible.
Now many years later, with a fair bit more software experience under my belt, and 3 years of working with large rental houses in Melbourne seeing how staff shortages affect them we took another shot at it!
WHO IS THE CUSTOMER: What is the typical profile of your target customer? Where would they be located?:
We work with any size rental businesses, predominantly utility hire based like trailers ect that are looking to reduce the amount of staff required to run their business, and to grow their businesses across locations by reducing the space required to open a new location.
LESSONS TO SHARE: What 3 key lessons from your startup journey you’d like to share with aspiring entrepreneurs?:
Don’t build MVPs, build MLPs (Minimum Loveable Products), build a tool people can love and enjoy, focus on quality experiences that delight and make sure the little things dont slip. Most importantly, listen to customers, we spend on average 10-20 hours a week on the phone to customers gathering feedback, and I started this in the first week of development to ensure we were hitting their painpoint’s.
