THE IDEA: What is the problem being solved by your startup / business?:
The current industry comprises of image based or societal based dating services. Our startup andwemet.com is addressing the huge need of transparency and expectations on its platform which allows matches to make informed decision to build meaningful relationships.
THE FOUNDER’S STORY: When and how did you come up with the idea for the business?:
As regards to andwemet, the seed to build was sown in 1990 while I was still in college and my family decided to find me a husband to which I agreed to inspite of personal reservations.
The experience of meeting families and boys and being rejected for my complexion did make me insecure and under confident, these experiences while I was doing very well professionally, did have an impact on how I saw things.
It had taken me some time to get over the insecurities and find a life partner. While I have since moved on, the desired to change the status quo was always burning, which led to me starting a match making service called andwemet, with the idea to reduce heart burn for both the genders when looking for a match.
WHO IS THE CUSTOMER: What is the typical profile of your target customer? Where would they be located?:
Single Urban Indians between 25-60 years – they can be living in India or overseas.
LESSONS TO SHARE: What 3 key lessons from your startup journey you’d like to share with aspiring entrepreneurs?:
1. A belief in yourself + have enough funds for 3 years so you do not have look out for investors
2. Immense patience, make small achievable daily goals
3. Let the naysayers not distract you + lots will come and give you advice on how to/ what to do – listen to all but do not get distracted.
